FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why do I need to have my air ducts cleaned?
According to the EPA, indoor air can be up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. The benefits of a freshly cleaned air duct system in New York  include: (1) Cleaner, fresher and healthier air inside your home or office (2) Home and office furnishings will stay cleaner longer (3) Mechanical units will perform more efficiently when coils and blowers are cleaned which means energy and money savings for you
  2. Will your equipment damage my air ducts?
Absolutely not. While our equipment is designed to be aggressive at removing debris from your air system, it is also gentle enough so that it does not damage your air ducts.
  3. How much does it cost?
For L.I. NEW YORK area residential customers, the EPA says that air system cleaning "typically — but not always — range in cost from $450 to $1,000 per heating and cooling system, depending on the services offered, the size of the system to be cleaned, system accessibility, climatic region, and level of contamination." [source] At Advanced Air Flow  our starting price for full service air system cleaning is $395. 4. What does full service air system cleaning include?
Beware of the ads you see touting whole house duct cleaning for $49 or some other "too good to be true" price. This is a classic bait and switch tactic. Even if a company does clean your air ducts for an ultra low price, they have done you a disservice. Why? Full service air system cleaning not only includes cleaning out your air ducts, but must also include cleaning your furnace/air handler. This is the heart of the air system and must be cleaned as well. Cleaning your air ducts WITHOUT cleaning your furnace/air handler is the same as changing the oil in your car without replacing the oil filter. If your furnace/air handler is dirty, your freshly "cleaned" air ducts will instantly become dirty as soon as you turn on your furnace or air conditioner.
  5. How will you clean my air system?
We start by cleaning your furnace/air handler, which is the heart of the system. This can take up to 1-2 hours. Then we will remove and clean all the vent registers in your home. After that, we have powerful air duct cleaning equipment with a long hose that stirs up and removes the debris inside the ducts. This debris is collected into our HEPA vacuum system and properly disposed. If Necessary, we will fog your air duct system with disinfectant, soot set sealant and deodorizer leaving your air system fresh and clean.
  6. Is the process messy?
Absolutely not. All of our vacuum equipment is truck mounted or  HEPA-filtered to 99.97% so the dirt stays in the machine and out of your home. Our procedures are designed to protect your home and furnishings from dust/dirt and we always leave the home cleaner then when we arrived.
  7. How long does it take?
It typically takes 2-4 hours per air system.
  8. How often should my air ducts be cleaned?
Because the East End of Long Island  is a humid environment, it is recommended to have your home's air system inspected  every year. For commercial customers, we recommend a thorough cleaning every 2 years.
  9. Can I be at home while the work is being completed?
Yes. Our HEPA-filtered machines prevent any debris in your air system from entering the home environment, so you can be home while the work is performed.
  10. Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, we are licensed and insured to provide this service in the state of New York. We have been providing this service to Long Island residents for over 25 years.
